ORIENTEERING
It consists of a race on foot with the aim of choosing the best route to find different control points located in a forest, mountain, river bank, sea coast, lake shore or on the streets of a town or city and get to the final destination in the shortest time.
Each contestant contributes their creativity and intelligence, and carries a map, a compass and a control card.
This is a comprehensive activity since orienteers have to make use of their intelligence, intuition and decision-making skills to choose and find the best possible way through the controls and up to the finish line. All this involves a psychic training on the individual neccesary to face the competitive world.
Orienteering is a tool required for any activity performed in a natural setting and as a starting point for other sports such as trekking, mountaineering and climbing.
The sense of adventure is a must in orienteering races, which clearly attracts young, and not so young, athletes willing to challenge themselves in unknown courses. Children´s fear of getting lost somehow remains all through life, this is why learning about orientation brings about self confidence.
